Pupil Premium at work

In 2014, children adopted from local authority care attracted for the first time the Pupil Premium worth £1900.

The Department for Education commissioned the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) to identify emerging good practice on how schools are using the Pupil Premium to support adopted children during the first year of implementation.

BAAF’s report comprises of a number of interesting case studies which demonstrate what can be achieved when schools collaborate with parents to understand the needs of the adopted child and, with the help of the Pupil Premium, deliver interventions which are having a positive impact on the child’s progress at school. The report also includes other examples of innovative practice in supporting adopted children in education involving the Virtual School.
