DfE publishes new document outlining vision for regional adoption agencies

19 June 2015

The Department for Education has published a document for local authorities and voluntary adoption agencies outlining the government’s vision for the development of  the regional adoption agencies programme.

This follows the announcement  – in The Queen’s Speech – of a requirement that councils combine their adoption functions within the next 2 years.  The legislation, contained in the Schools and Adoption Bill, aims to build on recent adoption reforms by “streamlining” the adoption matching process and increasing the number of potential adopters for every child.

“Regionalising Adoption”, published today, seeks to “kick start” the transition to regional adoption agencies. Among the topics addressed are: the key challenges facing the adoption sector,  ideas for how regional adoption agencies might look and how the department can help accelerate their development.
