Description

By choosing to adopt through Adoption Matters you will gain the additional support, training and guidance from the Centre for Adoption Support (known as CFAS).  The Centre for Adoption Support was formed in 2013 in partnership with Caritas Care from a Government grant for the Department of Education.  The centre offers additional support, training and guidance to adopters, their families, children and schools.

Some of the services offered by our Centre for Adoption Support are:

Education Drop-in Sessions – you can come and meet with one of our education officers who will give you advice on around any school or education issues.

Therapy and Counselling Sessions – this includes one to one sessions and group programmes where we explore the tools and techniques we’ve developed over the many years while working with adoptive families.

Adoption Buddy System – we offer a great way for new adopters and more experienced adopters to get together and share their thoughts and advice.

Parenting Teenagers Workshop – depending on the age of child you choose to adopt, the teenage years will one day be a reality! This workshop helps you to prepare for any challenges ahead and to gain guidance on concerns you might have.

Family Activity Days – including music and play activities, drama days and adventure days building dens and toasting marshmallows!

Life Story Workshops – providing a family for an older child who may not have had the best start to life is very rewarding but we also understand the challenges that can come with this. Our life-story workshops prepare you to explain to your child, their family history and to consider the significance of adoption.

Consultation Sessions – these sessions are held across the region and are a great opportunity for families, adopters and professionals to get together and discuss the current issues around adoption.

Support Groups – these groups are an opportunity for you to meet with other adopters, share experiences, support each other and make new friends. We offer groups for Teenagers and Dads too.

The Centre for Adoption Support is the only support and training centre of its kind in the North West and prides itself on offering bespoke tailored support packages based on your own individual needs.   The centre’s ethos is ‘one size doesn’t fit all’, the team works on a case by case basis.   The centre which has gained national recognition from the Department of Education and the Children & Families Minister, Edward Timpson.
