Description
We have 3 adoption support programmes:
- Young Explorers (ages 8-12)
- Teen Spirit (ages 13-16)
- Parents Place
In line with Body & Soul’s whole-person approach, our programmes utilise group-based, age-appropriate therapeutic methods to support our members in transforming attachment and behavioural problems. These include Theraplay, dance, music and drama therapy, DBT, and mindfulness therapy, run by qualified practitioners.
Our team includes registered teachers, social workers, clinical psychologists and child psychologists, as well as peer mentors. Intervention through Body & Soul’s programme is directed at early prevention. Our therapeutic work aims to address the underlying needs associated with trauma and attachment that are common to adopted children and young people. The programmes rely on a communal context to all experiences where young people, peer mentors and staff function as part of a ‘therapeutic community’ where relationships are built on trust, co-operation and respect.
We also provide Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Drama Therapy, Dance Therapy at our beautiful purpose built space. Our services are provided on Saturdays where we run a quarterly new intake that consists of 4 consecutive Saturday sessions. On top of this we run monthly reconnection days for anyone who has participated in the initial 4 week programme. All of our programmes are eligible for full funding under the Adoption Support Fund.
